You got it! Toyota!

I did a job for Toyota a few months back and saved all the stages. Maybe I knew I'd have my very own blog one day and could share this lovely process with the world. Maybe I'm somewhat of a Process Junkie like Alberto Ruiz! I dunno!

Regardless, here's how it started. In very rare cases, you work with an art director that actually knows what they want from the get go. So I lucked out. It wasn't a case of "I'll know what I'm looking for when I see it." So I recieved his COLOR layout and provided a black and white rough for him so that he knew we were on the same page.

Once that was approved, I drew her all up. Check my link to "Sugar Frosted Goodness" and I've posted a close up of the undercarriage. Anyway, I stuck very close to my intial layout.

In the the final stage I slap on the lettering and cry as all the artwork is covered up. I try my best to give it an old skool look and make the deadline.

They were happy, I was happy. A very rare working scenario. Wish there were more projects like this one! Oh well, I've experienced it once in my life. Perhaps I ask too much...!

Batman Blog

Here's a color Batman sketch I did in about an hour. Jeff Matsuda's new Batman is pretty damn cool! Of course, so is Jeff! So there you go! Anyway, had fun with it and I may be doing some promo art or something. The job isn't nailed down yet. Regardless, it's always a treat to draw Batman!

Monster Allergy!

Here's some Monster Allergy art with Zick and SnyakutzBu [ whatta name... ]. Zick seems like a likeable little fellow. Scared of life, but who wouldn't be - surrounded by monsters, such as he is?

Burger King in the House!

I do a lot of work for a design firm that supplies Burger King with Toy Designs and Package Art. Above is a color rough for a racy campaign idea they had in mind. The "Burger King" character as a real "player". Complete with poker chips and the cute babe to go with all the winnings. They also wanted a retro cartoony look to go along with it. Having never done work in this vein [ but always admiring the artists that do/did ] - I was excited to get to going.

Alas, this was another campaign that didn't really see the light of day but getting paid to fool around with design and color is always a special treat.

Here's two comps I did for
an Alfred Hitchcock DVD
cover. Ultimately, I painted
another completely different
version that they used but I always enjoyed these. Obviously, the second one tells the story a little better but the first one has that nice grey coloring... Oh well. Wasn't too happy with the final version they landed up using but it was a fun assignment nevertheless!
