Grunts Pin Up

Just did this for Shannon Denton and Keith Giffen's TB called Grunts.
Here's a link to Darby's blog, where I found a photograph of his that inspired the entire drawing. Check out his work, the man knows his way around a camera - and a battlefield!

Great work! How long work you on that pic?

Sweet man; really dig the zip on the color version; the b&w looks great too, thinner than usual from you, really a different take. Great stuff!

Nice Dan! I saw another piece that Mike O'Hare did and it was stunning as well. I'll have to commend Shannon next time I see him.

BALKANDUDE: Thanks! It took a couple of hours. No BG and the gun takes up most of it! ;)

SURFER MARK: For printed work I usually vary the line thicknesses a bit. I used to go very thin and detailed but these days, why bother? Color does all the highlights, etc.

RYAN: I'll have to check that out. How was Drink and Draw?

DOMINICK/STEVE: Thanks, guys!

CRAIG: Going for that Two Fisted Tales look!

MEL: You're too kind!

BRIAN/CARMAN: Thanks! Glad you dig!

Thanks guys! The more I look at it, he kinda looks like Randy Couture than Clint Eastwood! Go Randy!

That's a beautiful piece! You have a nice, bold, confident pen line! Nice black spotting as well.
The red version is bold and very striking. Say hello to Shannon for me, ( I worked with him on his last Komikwerks collection ).

Stellar drawing! Love the inks! Very cool treatment. Once again, all cylinders are well-pounded, if you know what I mean.

Hey,

I think your drawing was based on my photo:

Just curious what this is for?

Anyway, nice illustration.

Hi Darby - it is indeed. That gun angle is incredible! It's right out of a comic book, practically. The face is loosely based on Clint Eastwood's mug!

The piece was for a friend that publishes an indie comic book called "Grunts". It's about WW2 army men that fight...zombies. Seems that everyone has a thing against the undead...!

Hey,

Thanks for letting me know. Glad you like the photo.

Would you mind me re-posting the image on my blog?

Cheers,
